"Modern Day Tragedy" New sonic high water mark!

"Modern Day Tragedy" New sonic high water mark!
As I was into the last hours of a mix that started last Friday I did not know if this track was crap or not. I finished it last night at midnight I was all alone. I thought about all the many people who have made this track what it has become and was grateful.
The song has come a long way from writing it with Ralph Murphy at my dinner table with an acoustic guitar. To tracking the drums with Randal Stoll and my production team at the Warehouse with my long-time friend and partner Delwyn Brooks, an amazing talent! The song took me back to my studio, recording bass and keyboards with John Dryden and Andrew Lorimer. Finally the string arrangement by Christian Howes was done at Berklee.
We removed, edited and revised the arrangement to stay on point. “It’s all about the little girl”
Delwyn returned to mix the track with me for a few two days sessions.
Here I am sending it to you all I have to say is “I can stand behind it and now own it”

Michael Behm"The Remaining Go" The song’s lyrics bring the situation to vivid life: “1,000 summers to make just one…

MICHAEL BEHM

The Remaining Go

Michael Behm is a multi-talented singer/songwriter with a rapidly expanding international reputation as an artist to watch. He is also a concerned citizen of Planet Earth. These two roles intersect in compelling fashion on his new track, “The Remaining Go.”

The song was written for Earth Day, and Behm is donating all the proceeds from sales of the track to the Western Canada Wilderness Committee (WCWC) for their work in educating people on the steps we can take to make living on earth sustainable. The song has also been donated to the WCWC for use in their publicity campaigns. "I created the song as a reminder for us to be a little easier on the planet,” explains Behm. “I recognised the need for all of us to honour the agreement we have with nature and to walk with a little softer footprint.”

The catalyst for The Remaining Go was Behm’s witnessing of environmental destruction in his own British Columbia backyard. He lives close to Qualicum and Cathedral Grove, a beautiful old growth forest now under serious threat from logging. Heli-logging close to protected areas of forest creates serious damage to the entire forest, says Behm. “When you cut down the primary trees around an old growth forest, the wind affects the remaining trees and they fall as well, hence the title ‘The Remaining Go.’”

The song’s lyrics bring the situation to vivid life: “1,000 summers to make just one…when the cold winds blow, the remaining go.” The message is delivered in the form of a strongly melodic and accessible pop-rock song. “I wanted something singable so the audience could sing along if they wanted to. I was looking for something with a pop sensibility and a pleading kind of performance to it,” says Behm.

This mandate is fulfilled in strikingly effective fashion on “The Remaining Go.” The song features the high-end production that has become a Michael Behm trademark, while his vocal and instrumental work is of an equally high calibre. This creative talent was vividly showcased on his 2008 album Saving America, which earned notable airplay and media attention in the U.S., while his recent single “If I Could Learn To Fly” topped online charts in Australia (mp3.au.com) and Canada (Reverb Nation). His carefully-crafted compositions are also in increasing demand for film and television, and Behm recently completed a track for a new Disney prodution.

An impressive new addition to Behm’s body of work, ”The Remaining Go” reflects a wider purpose. ”I’m not preachy, but there’s a point when mainstream people like myself feel motivated to do something about what is going on.”

Michael Behm Powerpopaholic

The good times are rolling for Michael Behm four months after releasing “Saving America,” The third single off his forthcoming album "If I could Learn To Fly" is enjoying top chart positions in Canada, Australia and finding solid ground in the US. "Saving America" is a big pop album full of accessible optimism and cheer, that could even turn your average American Idol fan into a power pop fan. The production work and mixing assisted by Pat Steward (The New Odds, Bryan Adams) and Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Elvis Costello, Metallica) give the album a crisp full sound. "If I Could Learn To Fly" is a huge highlight, with ELO-like echo effects and smart time signature changes. Next is the hook-laden "The Art of Letting Go" which has a great leading bass line and Michael's winning vocals. Other highlights include "Ticket to Heaven" and the danceable "Honesty" resemble a Jellyfish single with a high falsetto driving the chorus. Even the ballads are done right with "Lincoln" pulls all the right heartstrings. Also of note "Underground Epic" features some amazing guitar work in the intro similar to Sloan or Cheap Trick. Behm has an extensive back catalog, and I look forward to exploring it now. This is an excellent example of modern power pop that shouldn't be missed.

Michael Behm Ink19 review

Michael Behm
Saving America
Singer/songwriter Michael Behm may write about saving America, but his musical instincts were carved overseas, from the buoyant harmonies and crisp guitar jangle of The Beatles. Being blatantly inspired by The Beatles is nothing new; in fact, Oasis rocketed to stardom from it. What separates Behm from his fellow Fab Four disciples is that the influence can only be heard on the surface level; beneath it, there's a distinct personality breathing and exhaling its own air. Lyrically, Behm is far from copping John Lennon or Paul McCartney. The title track originates from a unique perspective, a foreigner (Behm is Canadian) lamenting the tarnished image of the United States. Of course, this is due to the wrecking crew of George W. Bush and his cronies. Behm isn't bashing the country; rather, he's saddened by how its ideals were corrupted ("You bought the allusion/ By kissing the ring of your redneck king"). It is powerful songwriting but Behm flavors the tune with sweet, power-pop hooks that, even if the message is lost, it'll still ring in the ears hours after the CD has stopped playing.
"The Art of Letting Go" and "Ticket to Heaven" is some of this year's best Britpop, albeit made in Canada. It's easy to get swept up into the momentum of Behm's infectiously melodic pop/rock. One could easily envision him opening up for Crowded House, another act with a serious crush on The Beatles and, like Behm, were able to inject their own flavors into the mix. There are times, especially on "Don't Believe," wherein Behm recalls fellow Canadian Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace; however, the music definitely isn't grunge despite the flashes of fuzz here and there. The finale, "Take Me Down to the River," is Behm at his most aggressive but it is classic, fist-pumping rock and roll, the kind with which Bruce Springsteen can stir up a stadium.

"1:42 seconds of complete joy" says Dave Reynolds of 99.7 The River

MICHAEL BEHM Love’s Like Numbers With “Love’s Like Numbers,” Michael Behm delivers again. He has earned an international reputation as a pure pop singer/songwriter par excellence, and this dazzling new single ups the ante. A slice of pop nirvana, it features a melody you just can’t or won’t want to shake, and a clear and compelling message. To Behm, the language of love is “very basic. Be clear in your mind about the type of experience you want to have with a person, and all your actions line up with that intention. ‘Love’s Like Numbers’ is about the simplicity of love.” With the perfect precision of a Japanese haiku, Behm makes his point in just 1 minute and 42 seconds. “The optimum length is the one the song needs in order to convey the necessary energy,” he explains. To drive his musical point home, Behm fully utilizes his multi-faceted skills as a singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He records all his material at a state of the art home studio on Vancouver Island, and makes no apologies for the classic ‘60s and ‘70s feel of his production. “That’s when the best ever music was created,” he says. “My brain has retained many different approaches to music over the years, and this is where I end up. I’m grateful for that, as I love that style of music and those techniques.” It may have retro roots, but Michael Behm’s music possesses a contemporary relevance that has earned it a welcoming response from radio in North America, Europe and Australia. His previous single, “If I Could Learn To Fly,” recently topped both the Pop and Power Pop charts in Australia on mp3.au.com alongside No. 1 (Vancouver) and No. 2 (Canada) positions on the Reverb Nation chart. The title track of Behm’s 2008 album Saving America scored notable airplay and media attention in the U.S., with its pointedly political subject matter confirming the breadth of his lyrical vision. His U.S. publishers, Rumblefish and Scorekeeper, are earning significant success in placements from his deep catalogue of song titles south of the border. Closer to home, B.C. adult contemporary radio station 99.7 The River is using Behm’s “Take Me Down To The River” as its theme, while Vancouver’s Rock 101 selected another Behm original as the theme for its popular Bro Jake Show. Michael terms “Love’s Like Numbers” “the first of a new generation of songs of mine. I’ve been refining a simpler approach to songwriting, coming up with strong themes and focusing on them.” Here’s a song and an artist that really count.

Isn't Obama the right man to save America? Is Michael Behm the one?Well, if music is the answer, then Michael Behm is halfway there with his new album "Saving America".This is really smart powerpop for the music lovers that demand something more than simple bubblegum pop choruses, Behm's songs goes deeper than that.I recently discovered this guy on his 2005 album "Love songs for the emotionally impaired" and knew his new album would be something extra, I have listened to "Saving America" quite a lot lately and must say it's even better than the previous record. The half instrumental "Underground Epic" is classic rock at it's best and the piano based "Lincoln" would make John Lennon proud."If I had a life" bring thoughts to Bleu and songs like "Ticket to heaven" and "If I could learn to fly" could've been featured on Tal Bachman's excellent 1999 album. The title track "Saving America" takes the listener back to the heydays of E.L.O, lovely!Well, he might not save America but he could easily save your day!

"The Art Of Letting Go" (single release)

____

“The Art Of Letting Go”
A three minute pop song may not be the first place you’d search to find a valuable life lesson. Happily, that is exactly what B.C.-based singer/songwriter/producer Michael Behm provides on his compelling new single, “The Art Of Letting Go.”
Initially, the listener is seduced by the gently haunting melody and Behm’s convincingly plaintive voice (the female-sounding backing vocals are actually him in falsetto), shimmering guitar playing, and crisp production. Gradually, the significance of the refrain - “the hardest part to learn is the art of letting go” - takes hold, just as its creator intended.
“I really believe that when you surrender to everything, your music, your love, your life, then you can unconditionally engage in them,” Behm explains with typical eloquence. “It’s about disengaging from your own sense of importance, and then becoming capable of having fun. People may think I am referring to a relationship, and it is based on one, your relationship to yourself.”
With “The Art Of Letting Go,” Behm has created the pop equivalent of a Zen koan, a concise statement that enables the listener (or reader) to focus on an important truth. He also successfully tackled another philosophical theme with a popular earlier track, “High Power,” and Michael, a voracious reader, describes his approach to lyric writing as “taking ideas that great minds present to you and finding meanings in some shape or form.”
His knack for framing these thoughts in easily accessible and highly melodic pop-rock songs is Michael Behm’s calling card. “The Art Of Letting Go” is the title track of his upcoming fourth album, a collection of new songs guaranteed to stimulate the brain while pleasing the ears.
This new material has already found a welcoming audience in a seemingly unlikely locale, the Dominican Republic. You see, the multi-faceted Behm is also a successful entrepreneur, one who built and ran a very popular bar/nightclub, The Voodoo Lounge, in the Caribbean for the past five years.
Last year, he wrote a song called “My Banana Republic,” a look at “a sunny place for shady people.” Michael donated it to a local radio station in the Dominican as part of a fundraising drive to help the area’s schoolchildren, and a live simulcast to premiere the song drew a capacity crowd.
Now, via a song you’ll definitely find very difficult to let go, it’s our turn to be exposed to the manifold talents of Michael Behm.

Michael Behm “Saving America is winning over hearts in the US”

I LOVE when a full developed artist arrives out the blue, flying totally under my radar until suddenly - BAM! - they land in my CD player and I fall in love with music that suprises, challenges, emotionally moves me and brings me out on the other side of joy. Michael Behm is one such artist and his two albums, the 2009 release "Saving America" and the 2004 "Love Songs For The Emotionally Impaired" are ones that I will pushing for many years to come. I review them here together, bundled in the hopes you just trust me and pick them both up as they are *that* pleasurable.
The signposts of the sounds here will be familiar to many Not Lamers - Jason Falkner, Owsley, The Grays, The Rembrandts, Mike Viola and The Candy Butchers, Bleu and Jim Boggia. LISTEN to the soundbites of both albums and the quality to should be self-evident. The production quality, the arrangements reach skyward and do not stint on low-ambition. Behm is not interested in writing cookie-cutter pop music but works of kaleidoscopic tapestries lasting value. Bless the man, he delivers.
"My partner in crime Par Winberg raved about Vancouver son Michael Behm earlier here on melodic.net but this is the first time I hear an album with Behm. It`s his 2005 album "Love songs for the emotionally impaired" but I`m glad I did because it`s such a classy piece of work for powerpop freaks like myself. Soundwise Behm stand somewhere between Owsley, Todd Rundgren and Jellyfish. I`m impressed by the production where the guitars are crystal clear and every other instrument lies perfect in the mix, Behm has a real nice voice that fits this sunny pop rock like a glove. " Melodic.net. This guy has been flying totally unknown by fans at places like Not Lame and I see very little written about him on Google, which is insanely perplexing, folks. Let us change that! This material not only merits investment on your shelves, but a bit of extra typing of letting the blogosphere and `net know that Michael Behm is an artist to savor.
